Turquoise magnesite beads and additional colors of dyed magnesite are one of the most affordable semi precious beads. Magnesite has the same crystal structure as calcite. Magnesite's white color, porous composition, and low luster make this gemstone ideal for enhancement.

Most magnesite on the market is dyed and stabilized, and some of the more unusual shapes are most likely molded from a resin and magnesite mixture.

Turquoise magnesite (sometimes erroneously called chalk turquoise) is a low grade stone that is ground into powder, saturated with resin, dyed and stabilized into beads for jewellery making.  They make a great substitute for much-pricier genuine turquoise.

Other colors of dyed magnesite include the descriptively named lime turquoise, white turquoise, marshmallow turquoise, Mojave green turquoise, and more.
