Shungite is a unique carbonaceous stone that is well known for its healing properties. It is the world’s oldest hydrocarbon-based rock. It was first described from a deposit near Shunga village, in Karelia, Russia, from where it gets its name.
It is not a mineral in the strictest sense of the word, and shungite comes from only one place on Earth – an area known as Karelia, which is divided between Russia and Finland.
Shungite is relatively new here in the west, but it is told that Peter the Great was so impressed with the healing effects of water passing through the stone deposits, that he created a shungite spa for his soldiers.  Many believe that water that has Shungite in it has healing properties. 
People nowadays refer to it as a miracle or magical stone because of its numerous curative, protective and therapeutic properties that it has offered for several generations now. It is currently used to purify water in several fields including agriculture, chemical industries and spirituality amongst others. It has also been used to treat various ailments from the 18th century till now.
